Geotechnical Assessments
ELECTRICAL RESISTIVITY TOMOGRAPHY (ERT)
What is ERT?
Electrical Resistivity Tomography (ERT) is a geotechnical assessment that utilizes electricity to gather soil data and geological variations. To perform the assessment, an electrical current is introduced on the soil surface, or through boreholes; data is gathered based on the resistance of the subsurface. Soil resistivity varies based on the density of the subsurface, the presence of water as well as utilities or infrastructure, all of which is reflected in the data from the assessment. This method is best for identifying sinkholes and other subsurface cavities.
AQUALIS Uses ERT to Assess Soils
ERT is a test that assesses the resistivity of soil, which is the opposite of conductivity. Understanding the resistivity of soil allows experts to understand the type of soil underground. This assessment helps professionals delineate between a naturally occurring sinkhole or a sinkhole due to failing infrastructure. Understanding the subsurface also allows AQUALIS professionals to best prepare for potential challenges associated with construction in the area in a non-invasive manner.
Uses for ERT
Monitoring Groundwater Contamination
Groundwater Recharge Studies
Detecting Voids and Cavities
Assessing Soil Properties
Soil & Groundwater Remediation
Pipeline & Utility Mapping
