Grant Assistance
Why Would I Need Grant Assistance?
At AQUALIS Engineering Services Division, we can help find the financial resources most applicable to fund your project, aligning with your long-term goals. We offer support by performing all necessary steps before completing and submitting the grant application. AQUALIS can also assist in grant progress and final reporting requirements. For many current and completed projects we have successfully lowered costs for our clients with grants.
Types of Grants We Have Earned
Federal Grants
Stormwater runoff is a concern across the nation due to its detrimental impact on surface and groundwater quality, as well as the cost and devastation related to flooding. Federal agencies offer several different grant programs, with the goal to mitigate the effects of stormwater runoff.
State Grants
Many states have their own agency that regulates impacts to the environment for health and safety. These agencies will often regulate impacts to the environment and announce when a Notice of Funding Availability (NOFA) becomes available to assist community projects.
Private Grants
Many philanthropic organizations align with our mission of environmental sustainability and want to invest in infrastructure that has both cost and environmental benefits. These organizations offer grant assistance for projects and can operate locally or nationally.
The Clean Water State Revolving Fund
The Clean Water State Revolving Fund (CWSRF) used both state and federal funds to provide low or no interest loans for public wastewater and stormwater infrastructure. These projects can range in size and can include both traditional (Gray) and non-traditional (Green) infrastructure. Depending on the project, principal forgiveness is available.
Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA)
Provides grant funding directed towards hazard mitigation by implementing sustainable solutions that reduce long term risks to the community. These funds are typically allocated through state emergency management departments and have a variety of funding categories.

AQUALIS Grant Funding Successes
Having this financial help has assisted many projects in having the ability to add more features, such as green infrastructure, as well as efficiently complete projects without having to dismiss necessary mechanisms due to budget.
AQUALIS has won over $3.6M in grant funding for our clients.
- Depending on the project and funder, a grant application may cost between $3,000 and $8,000 to prepare but could save the property owner more than 10 times that amount.
- There are cost-savings in applying for multiple grants.
- Multiple grants can be awarded to a single project and can often be used as funding “matches” required by each grantor.
- Local grants are the least competitive and federal grants are most competitive. AQUALIS can assist in finding the best grant that fits your project to be successful.
How Much Does a Grant Application Cost?
Most initial grant applications cost between $3,000 and $8,000 to prepare, depending on the grant. However, there are cost-savings in applying for multiple grants as some of the materials can be used again. Plus, having applications into multiple grantors will increase your odds of winning project funding!
What if I Don’t Have My Project Designed?
For some grants, you only need a concept to apply for the grant and some grant funds can be allocated towards designing your project. Other grants require or prioritize “shovel-ready” projects. AQUALIS can help discern which grant is right for your project at any stage of development.
Does AQUALIS Guarantee That My Project Will Win an Award?
Unfortunately, AQUALIS cannot predict whether the project will be awarded funding. We work very hard to spend our efforts on finding grants that are a good fit for your project and tailor the application directly to the goals and objectives of the grantor. However, awards are always dependent on what other projects are submitted, and that is unpredictable.
I’ve Been Awarded My Grant! Now What?
Most grants require additional paperwork, progress reports, and documentation throughout the project. AQUALIS can assist in grant management and reporting throughout project duration.
