Geotechnical Assessments

Geotechnical Assessments - AQUALIS

Subsurface Investigations

Geotechnical assessments are tools used to measure the physical properties and behaviors of a site. Utilizing electricity, radar, sampling and testing, Geotechnical assessments evaluate the health and viability of soil in a general area. AQUALIS offers these exploratory assessments to better understand your property before significant development or rehabilitation.

Services

When are Geotechnical Assessments Used?

Geotechnical assessments are used to evaluate create an image of underground topography and behavior based on data that describes the subsurface soils and infrastructure. Each geotechnical assessment analyses one piece of the puzzle, so often they are used in conjunction to fully understand what is underground in a particular area. These tests utilize data to interpret the following:

  • Soil Type
  • Infrastructure
  • Soil Density
  • Water Solubility

Utilizing non-invasive assessment methods allows AQUALIS professionals insight of materials underground. These assessments help professionals better understand how involved the project may be including potential costs and timeline.

Unfortunately, there is not a comprehensive method that provides a clear picture of what is underground. In some instances, only one testing method is necessary, but there are sites with issues that require more robust testing. For example, ERT assessments should be conducted directly on soils as the test is inconclusive on pavement, but MASW seismic surveys can be conducted on pavement, despite not reporting underground water as well as ERT.
